How to prepare for coming to the lab?
In order to obtain a correct result, it is necessary to properly prepare the patient for taking samples for analysis.
BIOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS
1. Avoid more physical activity 2-3 days before blood sampling.
Increased physical activity can significantly increase the activity of certain enzymes (CK, LDH, AST), potassium levels…
2. Take a blood sample in the morning after a night fast, 12 hours after the last meal.
Food leads to an increase in the concentration of: glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, phosphate, protein, iron, vitamins…
Daily variations are very significant with: iron, catecholamines, cortisol, ACTH, corticosteroids,…
Blood for stress hormones (ACTH, prolactin, catecholamines, cortisol,…) should be drawn after a break of at least 15-30 minutes.
3. Before taking blood, if possible, do not take medications and preparations that may affect the result.
Iron preparations, vitamins, hormone therapy, diuretics, analgesics…
If it is not possible to follow these recommendations, the chosen doctor should emphasize this, who will take this into account when interpreting the results.
And how to behave after a blood sampling?
After blood sampling, you must keep your arm outstretched for a while, slightly raised, and press on the puncture site to prevent hematoma (bleeding).
Some tests can be done from capillary blood (finger blood). A very small sample of blood from the capillaries can be obtained by stabbing a finger, earlobe or in a newborn from the heel or big toe. A complete blood count and a small number of other tests can be done this way.
